SK Sturm Graz fires Christian Ilzer after poor run of form

Ilzer departs after a disappointing run of results sees Graz fall out of contention for the title

Graz are now on the search for a new head coach

SK Sturm Graz have fired head coach Christian Ilzer after a poor run of form saw the club fall out of contention for the Austrian Bundesliga title.

The decision was announced on Monday, with Graz sitting eighth in the table, 16 points behind leaders Red Bull Salzburg.

Ilzer had been in charge of Graz since 2019, and he led the club to the Austrian Cup last season.

However, Graz have struggled for consistency this season, and they have won just two of their last eight league games.

As a result, the club has decided to part ways with Ilzer, and they are now on the search for a new head coach.

Possible replacements for Ilzer

There are a number of potential replacements for Ilzer, including:

  • Adi Hutter (former Borussia Monchengladbach and Eintracht Frankfurt manager)
  • Peter Stoger (former Borussia Dortmund and Austria Wien manager)
  • Thorsten Fink (former Hamburger SV and Ingolstadt 04 manager)
  • Next fixtures for Graz

Graz's next fixture is a home game against Austria Wien on Saturday.

The club will then face Wolfsberger AC away on March 12, before hosting LASK on March 19.
