U.S. track and field legend Carl Lewis blasts Team USA's performance and calls for changes

Lewis says the team's disqualification in the men's 4x100m relay is "completely unacceptable"

U.S. track and field legend Carl Lewis has called for changes after Team USA was disqualified in the men's 4x100m relay at the Tokyo Olympics.

Lewis, a nine-time Olympic gold medalist, said the team's performance was "completely unacceptable" and that he was "very disappointed" with the result.

The U.S. team was disqualified after Fred Kerley, the first leg runner, was ruled to have stepped on the line during the handover to Ronnie Baker.

Lewis said the team needs to "get its act together" and that he is "not sure what the answer is" to the team's problems.

He said the team needs to "figure it out" and that he is "not going to give up on them."

Lewis's comments come after a number of other former track and field stars have also criticized the team's performance.

Michael Johnson, a four-time Olympic gold medalist, said the team's performance was "embarrassing" and that he was "ashamed" of the result.

Allyson Felix, a six-time Olympic gold medalist, said the team's performance was "heartbreaking" and that she was "deeply disappointed" with the result.

The U.S. team's disqualification is the latest in a string of disappointing performances by the team in recent years.

The team failed to win a medal in the men's 4x100m relay at the 2016 Rio Olympics and was also disqualified in the event at the 2012 London Olympics.

The team's performance has raised questions about the state of the U.S. track and field program and whether the team can regain its former glory.
